A Big weekend on and off track

It was a very busy weekend for the Trucks Plus racing team running at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night and then heading down to the southern town of Collie for a display at the Wesfarmers 50 year celebration of Coal in Collie with Hitachi supporting the event and the Coyle team back by Hitachi it was a great opportunity to be part of the days festivities.

“It’s been a full on weekend,  we packed the black car in the shed and took the white car down to Collie, it was great talking to people about the car and discussing our involvement with Hitachi” Said the young charger Kris Coyle.

Saturday night started out slightly different without time trials and all drivers were seeded into respective groups with Coyle seeded into the top group where he had to fight his way forward in the heats to get a better spot in the feature. After a reasonable run in heat one and some tweaks to the car Coyle came from toward the back of the field to finish second  in his second heat that set him up for a fourteenth starting position for the A main.

“The seeding works very differently and it certainly makes you work alot harder as you are going to start mid pack at best”.

Coyle was getting plenty of air throughout the feature as he stood on the gas coming out of the turns. The track had plenty of bite and the remote area Concrete, Hitachi Murphy car was picking off the front runner one at a time.

“It was a hard race trying to get through all that traffic and there was bite up high and mid track so it made it real interesting out there”.

With four laps to go a huge crash caused mayhem on the track with Coyle avoiding the carnage. Upon the re-start Coyle had moved up several positions as a number of cars were not able to continue.

By the time the chequered flag fell Coyle had moved up a couple more spots to finish in sixth position a great effort coming from fourteenth.

“The crash was a big one and took out a few cars so it was a case of trying to get a good run over the last four laps. We are happy with sixth place tonight” Commented Coyle.

The team heads down to Manjimup next weekend for round one of the Southern Thunder Series.
