COYLE MAKES THE A MAIN In his first ever Australian Sprintcar Title Kris Coyle qualified in 20th position for the A main even after dropping his points on his last heat due to a car change following a huge crash in the last corner of his last heat. “I was pretty happy to qualify for the main but it was unfortunate that a good car was trashed getting there. I am OK but the car is not good. As I cam out of the corner for the last time something in the steering snapped and I went straight into the wall. There isn’t anything left of the front end that is for sure” said Coyle. After only ten odd laps on Wednesday night’s practice session Coyle brought out a completely new project car designed by his father Steve Coyle and Geoff Murphy and built by Murphy. As everyone could see we didn’t have time to get it painted as it wasn’t the plan in the end to actually run it but after the crash we didn’t have a choice”. Coyle decided to go to the rear and take position 24 for the final which allowed him several laps to get a feel for the car. After only a handful of laps Coyle had started to move forward and passed several back markers and was running his, own race. As the race wore on and the front runners started lapping cars Coyle moved up track to give them plenty of room to pass. Whilst exiting turn four Ryan Farrell had slid up track and Coyle tried to quickly move out of his way only to get caught up, hit some loose dirt and the car hit the outside wall damaging the front-end ending his race. “I was out of everyone’s way up there they had plenty of room obviously not enough for some but it’s minor damage and we will now sit down and plan what we will do for the rest of the season and decide to either run the project car or return next week with another Maxim for Bunbury” Commented Coyle. Coyles efforts over the weekend didn’t go un-noticed by some of the more fancied runners and has been touted as a major player over the next few years. “Even though we ended up damaged in the final, putting things into perspective Kris is still the youngest driver here in his first Aussie title qualifying straight into the A main with one race dropped which is a good effort in my books. If he had of kept his points he would have just about been in the top ten. A couple of his heat races were excellent coming from the back half of the field in to position two in one of those heats, in this calibre of drivers is no mean feat” Said Steve Coyle. The team is looking at next weekends big show at Bunbury and then the King of Wings the following week.
